Regardless, I'm getting the bonus pack... the day early, weapons, mini-guide, extra slot and the like sounds like a decent deal for the cost of just a slot.

There is no "day early" play. It's not listed in the press announcement, and I'm pretty sure something like that would be listed.

Finally someone level-headed. I have the same exact questions. People get so easily excited when they hear that we might get a */bonus/* slot, so they IMMEDIATELY proclaim their early investment into this next chapter with the pre-order, when they don't even know the full details! These kinds of people don't see the whole picture at all, and are the suckers that ANET is banking on.
But it's a two-way street, I know. ANET and their "general information" - they leave out the "dirty" specifics and only show the good so the blind public get excited on it. Please don't assume any position from the statements given. Gaile - I am calling you out, we need some clarification, and preferably before Sept. 15th!

1. Does the additional slot mean players will get three with the full purchase of the game?
2. Is Anets teminology for Preorder Pack and Prerelease Pack the same thing? I assume it is but if not please explain if we have to pay full price up front or what the deal is.
3. How will the Collector's Edition be preordered? Last time around I got screwed out of my CE due to it being late and even if it wasn't I couldn't preorder the CE specifically. So even if it was out during the start date I might not have gotten it. Hopefully you are making a Preorder (or whatever the hell you want to call it) for each version of the game.

Just noticed something interesting. It'll be on a DVD ROM, not a CD. All you out there without DVD drives better get one if you want to access the special stuff.

and the crystal ball says.......
i have read every post before this 1.the way i believe that the whole deal went down is like this.....
anet adds in guildwars store, with copys of GWP/GWF/and extra charecter slots.
(general responce from community=way cool now i will have too buy the 3 xtra slots im missing to have a min of 1 char of every class and 1 pvp slot)=$30.00
anet announces nightfall "prerelease pack" every one that already bought the xtra slots now has a xtra slot on top of the one they already got(which by the way, sounds like it wont be useable untill the full/merged version of nightfall is on yer account).plus you get all the bonus goodies with the "prerelease" pack.the pack seems to be a seperate thing altogether from the "preorder" deals.(ie.this cost will not be deducted from your full version purchase of nightfall. BUT if history is to be repeated, there will be a "preorder" deal to come.)=$10.00 for "prerealse"+$10.00 for "preorder"
so, now i sit and wildly focus on the crystal ball and it says....the extra slot will be there for our "insert name of expantion after night fall here" preveiw pvp weekend.so, there wont be a need for our players to buy a extra slot, as we have already provided one for them.we will continue this trend to stay a step ahead.oh, and we will get them all to give us there "preorder" for nightfall by offering a special preplay event complete with a special helm..... and for our beloved CE nightfall "preorders" a mini pet.
guildwars store will carry:"prerelease"/then "preorder"/then "fullversion" of nightfall...........
is this the feeling everyone else is getting???????

these are people that are still living in the stone ages either that or their PC is really really old, but if they can afford a game for $49.99 I'm sure that theyll have a DVD Drive since they only cost $15.00 roughly these days....
Its a risky thing but a fantastic marketing strategy by giving players an additional slot for 1 for pre-ordering, not sure how this will benefit players after the launch of GW as new players will be at a disadvantage.

I had to quote these posts cause they totally asked my exact questions and stated my exact concerns. So, what's up with the rewording of pre-order to pre-release? or is it not rewording, but actually something totally differnt?
Yes, I will be pre-ordering nightfall just like i did with the other chapters, and w00t if it comes with a free character slot too, but...
No, I'm not at all interested in buying this pre-release even if it has an extra character slot and all these frills if its not going to be the pre-order. Savvy? A-net please explain when you get the chance.
Yes.. you are confusing the h3ll out of a lot of us, and yes, cause we dont have crystal balls (like was explained by Zamial). It would be h3lla nice to have a little advance warning for some of these things.

i already have a confirmed preorder of the GAME along with the bonus pack so no ickky feeling.
49.99 plus tax/shipping
as for the slot Alex Weekes has posted in the dev forum that it is indeed an EXTRA BONUS slot
EDIT TO QUOTE ALEX

This is correct. The slot from the pre-release pack is a bonus slot. it is separate from the slots you get when you purchase Nightfall.

See now your calling it a pre-order, but a-net doesnt ... is a pre-order and a pre-release the same thing? Somebody who's not guessing please answer.
Pre-Order to me means, i'm pre-ordering a game to ensure i get a copy when it's released.
Pre-Release to me means I'm buying something before the actuall game is released. Doesnt mean it's the game itself, unless it states it otherwise.
But, the only thing I get from it is I will get a few books of art, and a key that will include a free slot, and 2 free items. It says nothing about this being a pre-order for the game itself.
Anyways i'm just asking for a little clarification.
Knowing my luck I'd buy this pre-release on sept. 15th and find out that i just spent 50 bones on a package with guildwars art and a key that will give me a free character slot and a couple cool items if I go out and fork out an extra 50 bones to buy the actual game. Until I see clarification, my only thoughts are "No thanks, I'll let someone else be the ginny-pig this time".

I beleive that they changed it from pre-order to pre-release becuase their had been some confusion about this from the companys and that they can get their crap right this time. But we will have to wait till it comes out. I most likey will get it. Also they put "more" which means their could be stuff added, like the 24hr ahead start and other things as well. Time will tell.

Any news from a-net yet on this?
Does the purchase of the pre-release include (in its price) the actual game, like pre-orders do?

i just sent an email to the store since they have updated their game package descriptions and now have 2 items instead of the one i ordered.
my order for 49.99 was a preorder of the complete game plus the noted preorder items as a bonus for preordering.
now there are 2 separate items
the straight preorder of the game for 49.99 with no bonus items
and a second item called Nightfall plus starter kit which is 54.99 and includes the bonus items but only 1 of the 2 special ingame items but does include the extra slot.
as i said i am waiting to see which way the store jumps on this

Basically you only pay a "deposit" on the game. I paid $5 for the "pre-order/pre-release" at EB Games. That $5 comes off the cost of the game when its released.

This is where I believe french speaking people are quite happy as the name for the pre-release pack hasn't changed with them and is still "boite de pre-commande" or pre-order pack.
